Yeovil v charlton my view

Easy this management game isn’t it? 3 games 3 wins and 3 clean sheets for sir Chris in his first 3 games.
This was not a pretty game to watch the windy conditions didn’t help, the times charlton passed the ball on the floor they looked quite dangerous, it was a shame they didn’t do this enough in the first half.

Jonnie Jackson had a 25 yard free kick tipped over and Yeovil missed a glorious chance with a free header from about 10 yards after doherty mis judged a corner in the wind. These were the only highlights of a poor first period.

Charlton started brightly in the second half wright-Phillips and aninysah linked up nicely on a couple of occasions the first for BWP side foot wide with only the keeper to beat. The second saw aninysah shot deflected for a corner, Jackson floated in and BWP headed in un marked from about 6 yards.

After this Yeovil huffed and puffed and at times charlton looked panicky at the back the wind still causing havoc with yeovils long high balls. Doherty was probably lucky to stay on the pitch after being booked in the first half for a late challenge got away with just a stern word from the ref for another late one. Elliot made a decent save from a Jackson sliced clearance that I thought was in but apart from that was never really tested.

No one really stood out in the charlton performance, it was a solid team effort in difficult circumstances. Long may Chris powells unbeaten run continue.

Winning start to new era

Chris Powell got a huge and deserved welcome when he stepped onto the valley pitch for his first taste of management and got a perfect result as well.

The atmosphere seemed a little down, maybe the fans were expecting Charlton to be 2 or 3 up after 10 minutes but remember Powell has been in charge for a week it will take time for him to put his mark on the team. The valley hasn’t been a happy home ground for a while now but the team need the fans to stick together and support the players. Rumpled that a certain player was booed before coming on does nobody any favours, Pawel may not be having the best of times but times like these fans need to show support at the end of the day one player being booed will effect the whole team.

I didn’t think we created too many clear chances during the game, Plymouth contributed massively to our first goal which Waggy who run himself into the ground playing in an unfamiliar roll upfront/just behind Joe Anyinsah, finished well, Anyinsah held the ball up superbly up front and linked the play well.

Nathan Ecclestone wrapped up the points with a excellent goal in the 89th minute, tracking back and disposing the opposition winger just outside our box, he received the ball back inside our own half and raced away to fire a deflected shot into the far corner. A throughly deserved 3 points Plymouth had 1 shot on goal which was a 25 yard volley which went just over and had Elliot beaten.

So the main thing was 3 points which we got, Powell will be learning all the time about the squad he has and maybe looking to add to in the transfer window. The big decision to come will be Powells number 2, rumours say Matt Holland another Charlton great.

Let’s look forward to next weeks trip to Rochdale and hopefully another 3 points.

We as fans need to stick together and support the team has one.

Retirement

another 2pt loss yesterday.

Since I started the blog it’s been a disaster on the betting front. Not sure if I’m trying to find bets that are not right or putting too much effort onto finding reasons for the bet.

I’ve quite enjoyed the writing but may have to find something different to write about.

The golf bets that I put on twitter have started ok but didn’t put them on here. My point exactly.

Here’s hoping I can find something to write about and get back to placing some winning bets which I’ll still put on twitter.

January 5th bets

Ok here goes another round of bets, let’s see if we can claw back some of the earlier losses.

Newcastle v West ham is the first game we will be looking at and something slightly different to normal, we will look at the corner market.

Newcastle average 5.3 corners in their 10 home games so far this season and 3.9 against them, whilst West ham average 3.7 in their 10 away games and a massive 8.7 against them. Newcastle Average margin on corners is +1.4 whilst West ham is -4.8.

Today’s bet will be Newcastle -3 corner handicap 1.92 bet365 1pt

We head to Ewood park for Blackburn v Liverpool for our second bet, this involves the bookings market. In 77.8% of their 9 away
games Liverpool have picked up the first card of the game whilst Blackburn have only received the first card in 4/10 home games.

Bet 2 Liverpool first card 1.85 William hill 1pt

Good luck with what ever you decide.

3rd January betting

No premier league fixtures today so we drop down to league one for our bet of the day.

Today sees in form Hartlepool travel to Notts County, Hartlepool are in good form on the road having won 3 of there last 5 beating Bournemouth, Huddersfield and Tranmere all by a 1-0 scoreline. They have won 5 drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 8 games home and away.

Notts county have won only 3 of their last 8 games drawing 1 and losing 4, the 3 wins were at home against an up and down M K Dons, a very average Swindon team and Plymouth. The Plymouth game was back in October and Swindon game was back in November.

Notts record against teams in the top half of the table is poor having played 9 games against top half teams they have only won 2 games and lost 6 scoring 10 and conceding 19 goals, whilst Hartlepool’s record against teams in the bottom half of the division is average having played 11 won 4 and lost 3 scoring 13 and conceding 14 they have beaten far better sides than Notts county on their travels. The price for an away win is to big to ignore.

Bet 1pt Hartlepool to win @ 4.3 betfair

Good luck with whatever youvdecide to bet on today.

Colchester v Charlton review

I don’t get to see as many Charlton games as I used to and as I would like to, but I did manage to get to the Weston homes community stadium a first visit to this new stadium.

A good number of addicks made the trip, as a guess I’d say about 1000.

It was a poor first half performance, we lacked any real creativity in the final 3rd but from what seemed like our only two attacks of the first half we got two deserved penalties and Jonnie Jackson cooly converted to send us into the break level at 2-2, Colchester playing with 10 men for the ast 5 minutes of the half. Colchester seemed to get down the flanks fairly easily and scored both goals from crosses, unfortunately Mr Doherty is starting to look a bit laboured, although not sure what back up is available in the centre back position, Llera?

Charlton looked a lot more lively in the second period epescially when Reid replaced Wagstaff and Jackson moved into the centre of midfield with Lee martin moving wide right and Abbott joining Benson up front. Reids pace and trickery as with Martin caused lots more problems for united as we were able to get down the flanks and get some crosses into the box.

Colchester scored an underserved 3rd goal, possibly a foul on Doherty in the box but charlton still failed to clear.

Benson scored a wonderful scissors kick to equalise and there looked like only one winner, Bensons far post header looked to have sealed the points but the ref had other ideas. Tonme it looked a perfectly good challenge with the defender static and benson on the move there was only ever going to be one winner to the ball. Bensons eventful afternoon wasn’t finished as he ended in the showers a couple of minutes before his teammates, the tackle was slightly late, but was not a foot up challenge and there seemed minimal contact, I’m sure there will be an appeal but on the evidence of the one angle showed on the tv I think the fa will stick with the refs original decision.

I guess after 2 away games against top 6 teams 2 points is not a bad reward, playing against 10 men for the best part of 140 minutes a team looking for promotion would have hoped for better.

A few things I noted, the centre back partnership lacks pace, Dailly is an excellent reader of the game Doherty looked very slow epescially when being turned.

Lee Martin for me was man of the match I thought he looked the most creative of our players and most of the good attacking moves came through him, I think he is better suited to a wide position rather than playing just behind the striker.

Reid looked dangerous when he came on, difficult to see where he fits in as Jonnie Jackson is our main left midfielder and our top goalscorer. Waggy didn’t look his usual self and drifted in and out of the game before being subbed. We need to find the creativity to create chances, whilst the two centre midfielders are fine players they don’t seem to create to many chances for the front 2.

I’m sure the guys and girls that have seen more games than me will have there own views, feel free to leave them here.

On the positives we are 3rd in the league, have financial stability after the takeover and have the best fans in the world.

Up the addicks.
